Host: With Talking Tech, I'm Jessica Harding. As education adapts to the needs of today's students, one-to-one tutoring is becoming an essential solution. Studies show a 67% boost in student attainment when they are taught one-to-one, compared to traditional classroom settings. Joining me to discuss this is Kevin Ramchurn, a mathematics tutor and managing director at Suited Tutor. Kevin, how can small class sizes and one-to-one tutoring help students?

Kevin: smaller the class sizes it does improve the students outcomes and by allowing the teacher to tailor the lessons a bit more and try to be more engaging and also to provide better discipline with the students in terms of moving them around or working with different students within the class. It's not a study that is done in one school. It's a study that's been done across 21,000 schools over 80 countries. So having less students in the class did show that a lot of improvement. The maximum I will have in a class is about 26 to 27. And it has helped me a lot in terms of how I deliver my lessons and how much feedback I can give to each student. And then when I do a one-to-one tutoring, it does impact their learning. So if you look at the national tutoring programme, about 67% improvement in attainment for the students.

Host: What makes online tutoring an effective solution for flexible learning?

Kevin: With online tutoring you can get better tailored lessons because they're not really restricted to one location. They can talk to different tutors across the UK who are more specialised in that subject. It does help them not play catch up.

Host: How does technology aid learning?

Kevin: As a tutoring company, we do have a lot of different types of technology or software that we can use to help with the online tutoring. We have integrated Google Meet into our website, so that on that way they can easily visually see the student and visually see the tutor to have a better face-to-face conversation. When I do maths, I do use my iPad or my visualiser to show them the work out that they need to see, and they can spot any mistakes or misconceptions. And we also have an interactive website.

Host: Where can we go for more information?

Kevin: Our company, Suited Tutor, has created a website where we can get a lot of information about what type of tutors we have, what we offer. We also talk about other things and provide loads of support to help our students.

We talk about mental health or we talk about techniques that we can improve on their studying time. Just little things, just to help out boost the child's learning curve.

Host: Thank you Kevin. With Talking Tech, I'm Jessica Harding.
